Andrew P. Weston has creatively used the mystery of The Ninth Legion to weave a tale of epic proportions. What more can one expect after mashing together fighters from different time periods on an alien plant.
The conflict that begins to arise is tense, the action vividly described and the suspense enthralling. The pacing is well distributed as Weston takes the time to show you the lives of warriors prior to being snatched at the point of their death. This builds the character of the warriors and allows thee reader to make a connection with them. The tale that ensues is a sci-fi fan's wildest dreams. It's easy to get absorbed into the world created and the trials and struggles the characters must endure to save a civilization from a merciless foe.
"The IX" is fantastic novel that will have readers flying through the pages despite it's length.
A recommended read.

For centuries, military historians and Roman scholars alike have argued about why and how the Ninth Roman Legion disappeared. Weston gives us one possible answer: they were spirited away at the moment of death, along with other hand-picked warriors from Civil War times and the 21st century, to fight for an advanced human civilization in the future against an enemy intent on destroying all humanity.
"Fight or die" is the only choice for warriors from the past, present, and future in a novel sure to please you if you like a mix of high adventure, military history, hard science fiction, and metaphysics. A tour de force! Highly recommended.
