Intrigued by the continuing fuss?
**********
What could unite a Roman Legion and the Caledonian army they are fighting?

Or a US Cavalry Company with the Native American tribes arrayed against them?

How about a highly trained and motivated Special Forces unit and the terrorists they have been sent to wipe out at all costs?

Yes…

What could such a diverse and mutually aggressive group possibly have in common?

Arden – and the Horde, that’s what!

Arden, home to a culture that has existed for thousands of years and which spans dozens of worlds. Regardless, their sophistication cannot prevent calamity at the hands of an unstoppable nemesis. Known only as the Horde, this enemy has proven relentless. They have not only stripped the outer colonies bare, but now threaten the existence of the entire Ardenese way of life.
Realizing there is nothing they can do to prevent the inevitable march toward extinction, the Ardenese governing body comes to a drastic decision. They gather together at their capital city, Rhomane, and place their remaining genetic heritage in a vast underground ark, in the care of an advanced AI construct called the Architect. Its mission? To use Rhomane’s dwindling reserves and safeguard their race by reaching out across time and space toward those who might be in a position to help reseed a devastated world at some time in the future.

That’s how soldiers from varying eras and vastly different backgrounds find themselves together. Snatched away from Earth at the moment of their passing they are transported to the far side of the galaxy. Thinking they have been granted a reprieve, their relief turns to horror when they discover they face a simple but stark ultimatum:
Put aside your former animosities and preconceptions in order to survive.

Fight or die!

How does this group of mismatched and antagonistic misfits fare?
Do they survive?

Only just released, and already the latest diabolical collection of fiendish tales from the Heroes in Hell universe is a boiling hot cauldron of success.

But is that any wonder?
For Satan has ordered the deepest, darkest corners of the underworld purged of the unworthy, and the infernal doctors seem hell bent on their own agendas rather than obedience.

Such rebellion can only lead to mishap and mayhem aplenty, followed by their inevitable punishment. Rest assured:

The diagnosis is murder
And their medicine will be a bitter pill to swallow

Doctors in Hell - A Devil's Cauldron of a Collection

Damned souls wail as plagues wreak havoc, doctors up their fees, snake-oil salesmen make a killing, and Satan turns his hit-man loose. Be there when Erra, the Babylonian plague god, and his seven personified weapons, spread terror throughout the underverse!

Rookie authors write prescriptions for perdition, while veteran hellions diagnose the damned: Deborah Koren, Andrew P. Weston, Janet Morris, Joe Bonadonna, Matthew Kirshenblatt, Chris Morris, Michael H. Hanson, Rob Hinkle, Jack William Finley, Bill Snider, Richard Groller, Paul Freeman, Nancy Asire.

Victor Frankenstein and Quasimodo develop a vaccine -- with diabolical results...

Satan looses Daemon Grim, the Devil's personal hit man, and damned souls cower...

Bat Masterson finds himself caught between plague victims and Wyatt Earp...

Judas learns you can't teach an old dog new sins...

Calamity Jane and her Sinchester carbine defend hell's last uninfected outpost...

Nietzsche and Lilith, Adam's first wife, face the Beast and come to fiendish accord...

Doc Holliday tries one last gambit, and unleashes all hell's fury...

And there's worse to come, even an excerpt from bestselling author Andrew P. Weston's forthcoming Heroes in Hell novel! If you think life is tough, try the afterlife, where the doctor is always wrong, sinners never win, misery runs amok, and all hell's damned get their just deserts -- eternally.

The IX - For Connoisseurs of Science Fiction Everywhere

Pretty much epic in all ways. I am still wrapping my head around the multiple fascinating concepts author Andrew P. Weston introduced in his novel. This perfect sci-fi drama of action and trust and betrayal and hope, deserves to be read by you and absorbed into your life. This is a superb story and it has too many layers to peel back to do it justice. What I love most is no one is wasted. Not one of the many characters we meet is rendered unimportant. No fodder. No cardboard secondary's.
Do I recommend this book? Um, does chocolate cake taste fantastic? Of course! If you love a solid story that gives you moments of real fear for the safety of those imaginary people on the page, then I recommend, recommend, recommend highly THE IX.
Geeks in High School
Weston deftly weaves the horrors of the Horde stealing human life-essences, with the beauty of his prose and imagery. I was right there, on Arden, while reading. Action-packed through every chapter, the story unfolds as former enemies are forced to learn how to trust each other, to trust the visions & experiences of those who walk the spirit-world, & to share information. I highly recommend this book to fans of SF/fantasy, & horror.
Amazing Stories

The IX has taken me back to the books I enjoyed in my youth (Jerry Pournelle's King David's Spaceship or Gordon Dickson's Hour of the Horde) It flows wonderfully. There's constant motion,& Weston takes the story in unexpected directions that are intriguing & fun.
If you're in need of some fast-paced storytelling, lots of action, & an army of characters drawn from Earth's past and future, The IX should serve you well
.
Black Gate

Weston knows how to keep the reader on the edge of the seat without feeling as though the mission will never end. This is a complex combination of history, imagination& science fiction magic as is available today. A strong book by a solid author.
Grady Harp: Hall of Fame/Top 100 /Vine Reviewer

When it comes to science fiction, I want a book that captures me from page one and never gives me a reason to want to escape. I want a book that forces me to stay up until 3 a.m., because there is no point at which it is ideal to put it down. I want a book whose characters and plots are complex and intelligent, but elegantly crafted with the minimum of distraction. The IX delivers.
Fanboy Comics
**********
If you like your science fiction fast paced and gritty, full of realistic action and dark humor in the face of overwhelming odds, then The IX is definitely the epic for you.
Fans of Julian May’s “Saga of the Pliocene Exiles,” Robert Heinlein’s “Have Space Suit, Will Travel”, and Jerry Pournelle's “Janissaries Series” will love this tale. It combines the divergent elements of the past, present, and future, and blends them together into a slick and stylish package that will leave you breathless and hungry for more.

The IX

What many are saying is the Sci-Fi Blockbuster of 2015

Wow. I wish this had not ended. The book left me wanted more. Can anyone say blockbuster film? The writer never misses a beat in keeping an entertaining and thrilling plot.
This one is a must-read for 2015.
I can definitely see the influence of Stephen Donaldson...which is a very good thing!
Pretty much epic in all ways.
Reminded me of the plot to "Forbidden Planet".
I can see this being made into a game.
Fans of TV shows like 'Warehouse 13' and 'Supernatural,' and the film 'Timeline' should definitely check out this book!
This would surely translate into a tremendous theatrical film.
One of the best-written science-fiction sagas to come my way in a long time.
Military science fiction in the grand tradition of Robert A. Heinlein, Poul Anderson, Gordon R. Dickson, Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Janet Morris, and Joe Haldeman.
Old-school science fiction with a 21st century sensibility.
Within the first few pages, I understood why everyone is talking about the IX, a technical balance of history and a future so imaginative, it's almost like magic.
Bring on the Movie!
I seriously do not anticipate reading a better book in 2015.
Loved it! Waiting on the movie!
An Amazingly imaginative plot which alone makes this book stand out. The writing and storytelling are gripping and the concept amazing. I totally enjoyed this book and will be looking for more from Andrew Weston.
It was awesome I'm at a loss for words here.
A roman legion, a vanished one at that, a U.S calvary unit and a UK special forces squad, all fished out of time and brought together to fight for the survival of mankind. Brilliant writing, allied with fast paced and compelling action make this for a book that should be enjoyed over and over.
Well done! BRILLIANT! Highly recommend!
A Very Unique Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
A book with a potential for a movie.
It's a gripping read and a real page turner. Graphic, novel with the right blend of war and sci-fi.
A tour de force! Highly recommended.
Make This Superb, Sensational, Spectacular Story Into A Movie Please!

Amazing Stories

The folks over at Amazing stories have a little post running regarding a forthcoming release of mine - Grim - which will be appearing in the latest chapter of Janet Morris' long running Heroes in Hell universe, entitled Doctors in Hell.
**********

Here's a snippet of the post

Hellishly Good News.
Amazing Stories very own Andrew P. Weston is going to Hell.
What’s more, he seems delighted at the prospect of spending an eternity in perdition.
As was exclusively revealed through Amazing Stories in April, this coming Fall sees the release of his first ever Heroes in Hell Novel – Hell Bound – detailing the exploits of Satan’s chief bounty hunter, Daemon Grim, and the ups and downs of unlife as Hell’s diabolical Reaper.
And the great new is the short story that introduces us to this complex character – Grim – is almost upon us, for it is included within Doctors in Hell, the next infernal installment of Janet Morris’ critically acclaimed Heroes in Hell universe.
Unleashed upon us June 22nd, here’s a morsel to whet your appetite.
**********

Something is fomenting in the depths of Hell.
Something that leaves a decidedly bitter taste in His Infernal Majesty’s mouth.
The trouble is it’s more than just the flavor that’s revolting.
Those damned doctors are too!
What the devil is going on?
Time for a surgical strike perhaps?
Satan certainly thinks so.
If fact, if those doctors don’t want to toe the line then they can expect to flatline.
What’s the prognosis?
Rest assured. It will be bloody – it will be brutal – it will be awesome.

Coming soon in… Doctors in Hell.

The IX - June Reviews

Just look at what's happening in the world of The IX.
It's only the beginning of June, and the reviews are still rolling in.
**********
I loved it and am waiting on the movie.

Ever wondered what happened to those lost Roman Legionnaires? What about the US cavalry, engaged in a secret mission for President Lincoln? And whatever happened to the Special Forces Unit from a future time who disappeared during their mission to stop a nuclear disaster?

The IX has the answers and they are out of this world. Literally.

I gotta say, this fascinated me. What a great way to explain the disappearance of thousands. And what a world the author built.

At the point of death, these people were whisked away to a distant galaxy by an alien race. The inhabitants of that planet are being killed off and face extinction. They need warriors, now. Told they fight or die, these people must work together, live by the code, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” if they are going to survive.

There’s no going back. There’s only the the Horde, an enemy that doesn’t hesitate to die by the thousands. They must be stopped or all perish. And what’s to stop them from finding Earth and doing to us what they are doing to these beings? And then to another planet, and another.

What a movie this would be! I’d kill, just kidding, to have a part in it. Even as an ugly Kresh!

My description is simplified. There’s so much happening. This book comes in at a whopping 565 pages. But don’t let that deter you. By the time you reach the end, you’ll be wishing it was longer.

Though I stumbled over some of the alien names and terms, laughed at my own attempts to pronounce them, I quickly came to recognize them, along with the numerous human characters. There are a lot, yet it doesn’t take long to recognize the individual voices.

The plot for The IX is mind blowing. The author gives you many sub plots, plenty of history, and an amazing world to explore. He was able to make this all flow easily. You’ll fly through this in to time.

The writing is superb. Ever read a book and see the entire story play out like on the big screen. Except for not being too sure what those nasty Kresh looked like, I could see this in vivid color and detail. Imagination is a wonderful thing, as is this authors talent.

You don't want to miss this awesome sci-fi read

When I first picked up this book, I couldn't put it down. The longer I read it the more involved it became. There were so many characters. I loved the plot twists and the fast pace of the story. I was totally fascinated by the characters from different times managing to become a cohesive force against the enemy. It's hard to say much without spoiling it for anyone but if you love sci-fi this is a read you don't want to miss.

**********
Not just science fiction

As one the previous reviewers put it "Will there be a better book written in 2015". In my opinion, even within the science fiction/fantasy genre, I very much doubt it. However there is another level, when looked at without the genre spectacles on, it also serves as an allegory of modern times where the co-operation of very diverse groups can offer hope in combating and stopping a seemingly implacable, unstoppable horde.

Even when reading it s a pure science fiction novel it exceeds the norm. For one thing, Andrew knows his science. It is solid science from the here and now, combined with the latest thinking in the fields of quantum mechanics, theoretical physics, etc., put together in such a way that it becomes merely part of the narrative, not the reason for it. Neither do the separate historical perspectives disappoint. Whatever did happen to the Ninth Legion in Caledonia? Andrew's view is actually just as valid in the context of the novel as many others.

The way the plot is woven together is masterful. Everyone of the groups skill sets and experience is used well. No one group has an overriding command. For example, the SBS may be the masters with explosives and tactical surveillance, but without the siege warfare knowledge of the Romans or ability to scout whilst living off the land, as do the Caledonions, they would not be effective enough to affect the final outcome.

Characterisation is likewise very well done. Some of the people involved, lend themselves to be likeable and respected, whilst others, even some of the good guys, don't. However, the author helps you understand, through their historical and societal pressures, why they are the way they are. This can lead you to empathise with them, which in itself is unusual in the genre.

All in all an excellent read which I cannot recommend thoroughly enough. I cannot wait for the next novel from this author, hint, hint.

Doctors in Hell

From the Heroes in Hell shared universe of Janet Morris

**********
Remember this Name
Daemon Grim

Those consigned to hell, stay in hell.
But what happens if dissatisfied denizens disagree?

Dr Thomas Neill Cream is one such character.
Consigned to eternal suffering in 1892 following his death by hanging for a series of murders, the Lambeth Poisoner was a narcissistic sociopath who used his skills as a backstreet abortionist to purge the dregs of 19th century London with an élan that was as clinical as it was merciless.
His proclivity was best expressed by his habit of poisoning his victims, and then staying to watch so he could enjoy the prolonged misery of their slow and painful deaths.
Although welcomed into the underworld with open arms, Cream couldn't accept the fact that in a place like hell, he'd never be top dog.
So, he'd done something monumentally stupid in an attempt to boost his standing. Something resulting in the dispatch of Satan's chief bounty hunter - the Reaper - Daemon Grim.

Enjoyed the plot twists and development of the characters. Not your average twist writing. Many authors use gratuitous violence or sex to somehow make the plot move, and Weston manages to write a fairly fast paced novel and he lets his plot and characters drive the book without resorting to those two tactics. Mr. Weston manages to create characters that have depth and yet his characters come with flaws that each have to work around and with to "save the day." Waiting to see what comes next from Mr. Weston!

Initially it sounds like the plot of the Doctor Who serial THE WAR GAMES. I like that serial, so I thought I would like the book I did,I enjoyed the book very much. A few twists, time travel and picking soldiers who will die shortly. The story is very riveting. It's military sci-fi, but I think it goes beyond the 'Humans vs Aliens' plot. You think you have the motivation of the aliens figured out, then there's a turn, and your idea is wrong.
