The Purple Heart

Hi everyone.

Just a quick reminder. My friend and fellow author Christie Gucker's new story is out NOW!

This is the full jacket.

Blurb from back cover:
When does hiding the truth become an outright lie?
As an Army psychologist, Sydney Porter has heard her share of horror stories. The battle-scarred, down-trodden, and guilt-ridden have come to her office, seeking her help. When a highly decorated soldier is referred to her, she feels confident she can help heal his wounds. The chemistry between herself and Sergeant Aiden Thane is instantaneous. Sparks ignite and against her friend’s advice, she opens both her home and her heart.
Torn between a voice of reason and her undeniable feelings, Sydney begins to question just what is hiding behind her lover’s decorated uniform. What secrets are hidden behind his Purple Heart?
And does she really want to know?
Dedication:
This book is dedicated to every man and woman who has served as a soldier to defend freedom for all. You are heroes. It is also dedicated to the families of those soldiers who give up their fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and friends so that we can have those freedoms. Your sacrifices do not go unnoticed. Thank you all.
Special dedication to the soldiers in my family, My father, John P. Choida, grandfather Stephen P. Gaida, brother-in-law in-Darren Dreher, my father-in-law Donald Gucker and my grand uncles who have served or continue to do so for our country.

Reflections!

I don't know about you, but I've had rather an interesting week.
Quite a few things have happened to keep me busy.

Lara DeLuca had a cover release for her debut works...(Destiny and Destiny Unveiled). Tara Chevrestt had an absolutely blistering time on Amazon during a 'Free Giveaway' campaign with 'Mating Instinct'. Christie Gucker is busily gearing up for the release of her latest novel, 'The Purple Heart'. And on top of all this, there are other little preparations going on within Pagan Writers Press we're all looking forward to as well.
And me?
I received my latest manuscript back from Beta readers and finished the final edits, so I could get Fallen Angels in for the 2014 schedules.
All in all, a busy week.

But, as enjoyable as these things were, it was something else that got me thinking.

During the week, we received an inspiring little 'pep-talk' from the publisher.
It touched on various important points, and one of them made me stop and really think.
Especially the word, Grow!
I'm new - So, am I continuing to learn from my mistakes so that I can grow as a writer?

I'd like to think so. When I look at my first effort now, I've got to be honest...I cringe! Seriously.
When I then look at work I've just submitted, I think...Yeeha!
(I do my best to apply the points my editors/publisher have raised in the past, you see...so, in that way at least...I know I'm coming along.)
Happily, I don't forget to say 'thank you' either, for all the help I've been given.

BUT, it was something about that word 'grow' that made me ponder.
It made me ask myself a question. "Is my creativity increasing? Enlarging, expanding into something else? Propagating into more than just - as my wife likes to remind me - 'sitting at the computer all day and typing'?

Thankfully, I can say a heartfelt...yes!

Since being accepted, I've been actively encouraged to express my creative side.
Not only within my actual writing itself, (its depth, timbre, landscape), etc, but in other important ways too!
Looking back, I can see how, out of the blue, I began delving into other things I used to do that fell by the wayside over the years. Drawing, sketching and...wait for it...poetry!
(Yes - the burly ex Cop/ex Marine said poetry).

So, what I guess I'm trying to say is... "Thank you" to everyone at Pagan Writers Press, who HAVE helped - and are continuing to help - little old me, bring out his creative side once more.

And although I hope to be on the "Best Sellers" list one day...
I'll never forget my roots, and the team that helped me get there.
(Who knows, I may even hit you with some poetry!)

Cover Release!

Hi again everyone.
If you remember, I announced last week that my friend and fellow author, Lara DeLuca, was holding a special event from today - February 14th!

In celebration of the fact that its been two years since her YA debut novel - Destiny - hit the shelves, her publishers have been working closely with Laura to give Destiny, and the sequel - Destiny Unveiled a brand new makeover!

And here they are!

Gabriella is a witch. The problem is, she doesn't remember.
She repressed the memories of her powers years ago when her mother was
murdered. Now, the warlock who was responsible for her mother's death has set
his sights on Gabriella. He is determined to use her fear to turn her to the
dark side of magick…even if it kills her. Her mother's spirit is reaching out
to warn her, but even that she pushes away. Desperate to save her daughter, the
spirit finds a male witch–one that just happens to be in love with Gabriella.
Darron is more than willing to help but the two young witches will have way
more to battle than just an evil warlock. There are overbearing jocks and petty
rich girls who get tempers flaring and often set Gabriella and Darron at odds
There is more to the story than Gabriella and Darron could even
imagine. There are terrible secrets to be revealed, battles to be waged, and
lives will be lost. Only after Gabriella and Darron both come to terms with who
they really are, and open themselves up to the true meaning of magick, can they
have any hope of fulfilling their destiny.

Gabriella and Darron thought their magickal battle was over
when they defeated the evil warlock, Richard. When her Aunt Donna seeks
Gabriella's help in rescuing her catatonic daughter from the Dark Coven, Gabriella
discovers that her cousin holds a power within her that would be catastrophic
in the hands of the evil witches. Gabriella's coven sets out on a journey that
may be their last. Along the way, they meet new allies, face devastating
treachery, and battle not only the Dark Coven, but the darkness within
themselves. When Gabriella finally comes face to face with the cousin she never
knew existed, her true destiny is unveiled, and the fate of the mortal world is
in her hands

A Date for your diary!

Sunday May 26th.

High everyone.
I hope you don't mind...but I thought I'd give you a heads up for something later in the year.

In preperation for the release of "The Rage of Augustus" - The opening story of the Cambion Journals, I've managed to secure a guest appearance of the
Ashley Fontainne - Artist First Radio Show

Ashley will be helping uncover more about the book itself, my other work, and - of course - little old me!
You'll not only get to hear my wonderful English accent, but find out what makes me tick, and perhaps, a secret or two about other stuff I've done in my life.

The show actually runs for an hour. In view of the fact I plan to sport a fine selection of outrageously clashing clothes in all sorts of psychedelic colors, popcorn and 3D sunglassess are mandatory. Just thinking about it can cause retina burns.

I look forward to seeing you all there. Who knows, perhaps I may even belt out a song or two?
(Better include ear-plugs on the list too!)

Deliciously Magical

This week I'm really happy to introduce you to a great short story from someone I've highlighted on my blog before - Tara Chevrestt.
February 1st saw the release of "Mating Instinct"

It's Valentines Day. When Ariel receives a mystery package she wonders what on earth it could be. Opening the present, she discovers she has been sent some incense by a Pagan friend, along with a note...
"This is what you need"
Deciding there'd be no harm in trying the incense out, Ariel lights one of the sticks.
From the moment the smoke releases its magic, mayhem of a rather - 'rampant' nature - ensues, and the lives of Ariel, Hugh and their little companions - Lula, Pupsi & Eleanor are changed for.....
Aah, you'll have to read this hilarious little story yourselves.

You'll find it at Amazon - KDP Select

Tara is a deaf woman, a former aviation mechanic, writer and editor. Happily married, Tara believes she has the best job in the world. To find out more about Tara and her books, go to the following links.
